The Next Decision
If you have been wearing stretchy pants since Thanksgiving,
you are my spirit animal. HAHA!
Honestly, I was not a glutton on Thanksgiving Day. I ate a little bit of most
things and had one dessert, but I don’t have an “Uncle Larry” to send leftovers
home with! (All of my “Uncle Larrys” live WITH me—a story for another time…) I
have nibbled on leftovers here and there since the big meal--things that I
don’t usually eat, so I am feeling a little “off”. Yoga pants make me very
happy!
I hear you—the Regretful Ritas. “Ugh. I can’t believe I ate
that much.” The Doubting Daniels. “There is no way I can stick to my nutrition
goals through the holiday season.” And the Pessimistic Penelopes. “Well, I
already blew it on Thanksgiving. 2020 sucks anyways. Might as well live it up
till New Year’s Day!”
Which one are you?
I have news for you. It isn’t that pile of mashed potatoes
smothered in gravy with sauerkraut on top, or that extra piece of grandma’s
famous pecan pie topped with ice cream AND whip cream that is your downfall.
So, you pigged out. But the way you talk to yourself about your behavior will
either lock you in a cycle of emotional guilt and dictate your next decision,
or it will allow you to LET IT GO and make better decisions going forward.
Your NEXT decision is the most important decision you make.
Every. Single. Time.
This lesson I learned from author and psychotherapist ElizaKingsford (Brain Powered Weight Loss) helps me make the next decision to be one
of confidence, hopefulness, and one of empowerment (I love this word!) Your
thoughts influence your emotions, and your emotions drive your behaviors and
choices. So, don’t beat yourself up. Let us all be our own “Captain Optimistic”
and say, “I know I overdid it, but that behavior is OVER. I will now make a
decision that supports my goals and makes my body feel nourished.”
It’s next decision time. Who will you choose to be?
Be CONFIDENT! Be EMPOWERED! Be WELL!
